Review: Mineralogics

Finally got around to doing some spackling from my Mineralogics haul I received a couple of days ago. Overall, my experience so far is positive, certainly worth the money I paid for my entire haul ($40 - E-Bay). Two things I would repurchase and two I wouldn't. Let me break it down for you:

Brushes: The ones I received are definitely natural hair brushes, most likely a goat blend from the smell of them. Natural hair brushes tend to smell like wet dog when they are washed, the funk goes away after they dry. Pretty average, but they are compact and thick bristled.

Foundation: Very smooth and light. It felt more powdery than silky, if you know what I mean. Matte finish but too light in consistency if you need some coverage. This might be better suited as a finishing powder.

Eyeshadow: I tested a Vanilla highlighter shade and Jade green. Both are so sparkly they are practically blinding. These are your bling if you want a super shimmery eye. Downside is that the colors are very light when you put them on your skin. I expected the Jade to be a nice rich green, but it looked more like a light celery color. These would be a good finishing shimmer to put on top of other eyeshadow, but I can't recommend them as eyeshadows by themselves. Lack of pigmentation that is overwhelmed by excessive shimmer.

Blush: After being underwhelmed over the foundation and eyeshadow, I was surprised at the richness and pigmentation of the blush. I used Rose Dust and the color is as advertised. It is a super rich dusky rose color, matte and highly pigmented. Just a dab will do you and no shimmer at all. Matte as it gets. This I really liked and will probably pick up the other colors.

Lipstick: Another highly pigmented surprise. Solid matte colors. These are split mineral lipsticks which means two lipsticks for the price of one. I used the Rum/Raisin. I'm not certain which of the two colors I used, but it was a very close to the Rose Dust blush that I tested. These have castor oil and go on slick and feel a bit greasy until you get used to it. By the texture, I figured the color would be more like a lip gloss, but I was shocked when I looked in the mirror and saw such great color - from one swipe! I wish they had more colors. I own the two lipsticks on the website (technically four lipsticks) and would love to get my hands on other shades.

Bottom line: Get the blush and lipstick, pass on the rest. The brushes are a good deal for the price. They aren't oustanding, but they are soft and get the job done.
